In a vibrant celebration of tradition and learning on Vijayadashami Day, hundreds of children participated in the Vidyarambham ritual, symbolising their first step into the world of knowledge. The ceremony, blending spirituality with cultural heritage, was celebrated at temples and institutions across the district.

The Sree Dharmasastha temple in Thiruvullakkavu, Cherpu, stood at the centre of the festivities, drawing massive crowds from the early hours of morning. Families, eager to introduce their children to the world of letters, formed long queues outside the temple. Inside, the Saraswathi Mandapam brimmed with energy and devotion, reflecting the collective enthusiasm of parents.

Special pujas

The rituals commenced at 4 a.m., led by Acharyas. Children first received the sacred initiation by having the chant Ganapathy inscribed on their tongues, followed by writing Malayalam alphabets on rice, a symbolic beginning of their learning journey. Special pujas added to the spiritual grandeur of Vijayadashami, a festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil.

While the occasion was filled with joy and pride for most parents, it also carried moments of raw childhood emotions—some little ones expressed their nervousness with tears, while others found playful distractions, much to the challenge of both the parents and Acharyas.

The spirit of Vidyarambham resonated beyond Thiruvullakkavu, with large numbers of families also gathering at the Sreekrishna temple in Guruvayur, where the Guruvayur Devaswom organised the rituals with equal fervour. Vidyarambam ceremony was held in many other temples and institutions too.
