The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday (February 6, 2026) extended for the fourth time the deadline for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh. The 30-day extension was given following a request by the Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa, the poll body said.

Mr. Rinwa said claims and objections can now be filed until March 6.

The Commission said that upon consideration of other relevant factors and in exercise of the power conferred to it by proviso to Rule 12 of the Registration at Electors Rules, 1960, it extended the period for filing of claims and objections. Notices can now be issued to electors till March 27, and the final publication date of electoral rolls is April 10.

Out of the 15.44 crore voters in the previous list, 12.55 crore names were retained in the draft list and about 2.89 crore voters, around 19%, were deleted due to deaths, permanent migration or multiple registrations. Opposition parties in the State have alleged that names were wrongly deleted.
