The Transport Department on Wednesday identified 76 educational institution buses in Visakhapatnam district for failing to comply with prescribed safety standards during a series of special inspections conducted since April 28.

Deputy Transport Commissioner Manikumar stated in a release that officials inspected 368 buses out of a total of 1,250 educational institution buses operating in the district.

Notices have been issued to the managements of the institutions concerned, directing them to rectify the deficiencies within a week and produce the vehicles before the Deputy Transport Commissioner’s office in the presence of the respective Motor Vehicle Inspectors or Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspectors.

Mr. Manikumar said there would be no compromise on student safety and warned that stringent action would be taken against institutions found negligent in adhering to safety norms.
