All higher educational institutions in Puducherry will remain closed from April 8 to 10 due to the Assembly elections in the Union Territory, Director of Higher and Technical Education A. S Sivakumar has said. Polling in Puducherry is scheduled on April 9, 2026 (Thursday).

Several colleges and higher educational institutions are designated as polling stations. Necessary preparatory works including installation of CCTV cameras and maintenance are being carried out.

Further, for election-related activities including mobilisation of Central Armed Police Force personnel and transportation of polling materials, vehicles from private colleges/institutions are required to be utilised for the purpose. Heads of institutions have been instructed to ensure strict compliance of the closure direction of the colleges for three days, he said.
