Two persons were arrested by K.V. Kuppam police for reportedly killing a brick kiln worker on a Rail Over Bridge (ROB) in Pasumathur village near Katpadi in Vellore on Thursday.

The arrested persons were identified as K. Amal Raj, 61, resident of Vettuvanam village, and his family friend B. Karthik, 29.

Initial inquiry revealed that the victim and brick kiln worker, S. Raghavan, 30, married his childhood friend R. Swetha, 28, against the wishes of the bride’s parents, especially father in-law Amal Raj four years ago.

Police said the couple used to quarrel over Raghavan’s addiction to liquor. He was also unemployed for many months. Swetha went for work to meet the family’s domestic needs. As Amal Raj advised Raghavan to give up alcohol consumption and go for work.

Police said Raghavan did not heed anyone’s advice and continued fight with his wife. This angered Amal Raj. Along with his family friend Karthik, Amal Raj asked Raghavan to come to the bridge to talk about the family dispute when the duo reportedly hit him with a stone. Raghavan collapsed on the spot.

On being informed, K.V. Kuppam police rushed to the spot. Police analysed CCTV footage on the route and found the duo along with the victim Raghavan. They also studied the call records and nabbed them from a hideout near Katpadi. A case was registered. Arrested persons were lodged at Central Prison in Vellore. A probe is under way.
