At least eight persons were injured, three of them critically, in a massive explosion inside the Nowgam police station in Srinagar on Friday night (November 14, 2025), officials said. The Jammu and Kashmir police had recently unearthed an inter-State terror module and seized around 2,900 kg of explosives, including ammonium nitrate, in raids conducted in different States across the country.

The blast took place around 11.20 p.m., resulting in a huge flame engulfing the police station, officials said. Several vehicles parked on the police station premises caught fire and the impact of the blast was felt in the entire area, they added.

The injured, many with burn injuries, were shifted to nearby hospitals in Srinagar for treatment, officials said.

Initial reports suggested that a joint team of J&K Police and Forensic Science Laboratory was surveying explosives, including ammonium nitrate, confiscated during the recent raids in Haryana’s Faridabad, at the time of the blast.

The police, however, did not immediately confirm the exact cause of the blast and the number of casualties.

An official said around 2,900 kg of improvised explosive device (IED)-making material was recovered during the raids and kept inside the police station as part of the investigation.

Officers of the Nowgam police station on October 19 had spotted pro-Jaish-e-Muhammad posters in the area and subsequently arrested seven locals. The investigation into the posters resulted in the arrest of Dr. Adeel Ahmad Rather on November 1 and subsequently one more doctor, Dr. Muzamil Ahmad Ganaie alias Musaib, from Kashmir.

The police said the doctors were part of the inter-State terror module. The group of seven, according to the police, was involved in fundraising, logistics and procurement of arms and bomb-making material.
