The Ernakulam Rural police organised counselling sessions for nearly 30 persons reportedly addicted to drugs as part of the ongoing efforts to tackle drug menace. The sessions were led by medical practitioners and counsellors.

Those who attended the sessions included youths and students, sources said. Meanwhile, the rural police have intensified their anti-drug campaign by extending the ‘Udayam’ campaign of the Kochi City police to their limits. The campaign aims to prevent drug abuse among youths and students. The year-long campaign was inaugurated by Industries Minister P. Rajeeve in Aluva on Thursday (October 30).

Awareness sessions for students, parents, and teachers have been planned as part of the Udayam campaign. The programme will run parallel to the Mission Punarjani initiative of the rural police that focusses on curbing drug abuse among migrant population.
