One worker was killed and another sustained critical injuries after molten metal from a furnace spilled on them at a steel factory in Rangaipally village of Manoharabad mandal in Medak district on Monday evening (December 15, 2025).
The incident occurred around 4 p.m. at M/s Agarwal Foundries, which manufactures steel products for construction activities.
The deceased was identified as Saransh Kumar, 35, a native of Uttar Pradesh, who died on the spot after molten metal from the furnace fell on him. Another worker, Rajesh Pandey, 43, from Bihar, suffered 60-70% burn injuries and was shifted to a private hospital in Hyderabad for treatment, where his condition is stated to be critical.
According to Toopran Circle Inspector Ranga Krishna, both workers were standing near the furnace when it likely developed a puncture, causing molten metal to suddenly gush out and fall on them.
Following the incident, a large number of workers staged a protest in front of the factory, demanding compensation for the victims and action against those responsible. The protesters alleged that the management had failed to follow safety protocols and had ignored repeated complaints about technical issues with the furnaces. They claimed workers had flagged safety concerns earlier, but no corrective steps were taken.
Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s family, the Toopran police registered a case against the management of the company on Tuesday (December 16, 2025) morning and launched a probe into the matter. The official said the company announced an ex-gratia of ₹60 lakh to the deceased worker’s family, of which ₹50 lakh would be paid by the company and ₹10 lakh by the insurance firm.
Meanwhile, officials from the fire department said they did not receive any emergency call following the incident and confirmed that no fire was reported at the site.
