The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has seized a consignment of 21 kgs ganja in TATA-ERS Express at Jolarpet railway station in Tirupattur.

Police said that as part of a special drive against illegal transportation of narcotic substances and inflammable articles in trains under Operation Narcos, a team of RPF police personnel comprising Inspector Nikil Gupta, sub-inspector Dijith and constables Ankur Sharma and Aditya Ravat were conducting surprise checks in halted trains at the railway station.

The express train, which was on its way to Chennai, halted on platform two at the railway station. The team searched coaches of the express train where they found two abandoned tourist bags in the luggage carrier of the general compartment in the train. When they opened the bag, they found eight bundles of ganja.

Initial inquiry revealed that a gang of four persons got down at the railway station after they noticed a police team got into the train to search the coaches. They abandoned the consignment in the train and fled the spot. A case has been registered by Jolarpet RPF. The police also analysed CCTV footage to nab the gang that was involved in ganja smuggling. A probe is under way.
