Kerala Higher Education Minister Roji M. John has said the centralised spot admission process for vacant B.Tech seats in the State’s government and aided engineering colleges has been made more student-friendly. Until last year, centralised spot admissions were conducted at the Government Engineering College (GEC), Thrissur. Under the system, students could secure admission to vacant seats in any of the nine government engineering colleges and three aided engineering colleges from the centre alone.
This year, the Technical Education department had initially decided to conduct separate spot admissions at individual colleges. However, following concerns raised by students, the Minister has issued directions to make the process more convenient for applicants.
According to the revised arrangement, candidates participating in the centralised spot admission scheduled for August 13 will not have to travel to GEC Thrissur. Instead, applicants can report at any one of the 12 participating government or aided engineering colleges. A centralised software system will allot the available seats based on the candidates’ rank.
The students must report at any one of the 12 colleges before 12 p.m. on August 13 to be considered for admission to vacant seats. The arrangement is expected to eliminate the need for students to travel to Thrissur for the centralised spot admission.
The same team of software experts that coordinated the centralised spot admission process at GEC Thrissur during the previous years will coordinate the process.
Students participating in the spot admission must produce their Transfer Certificate (TC) or No Objection Certificate (NOC). However, the requirement does not apply to students who are already admitted to government engineering colleges.
