A day after seven people were killed when a compound wall of the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital collapsed on them, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ordered the suspension of the executive engineer concerned and directed a notice to be issued to the hospital authorities. Further, Lokayukta Justice B.S. Patil announced that the Karnataka Lokayukta had registered a suo motu case and an inquiry had been instituted.

However, the Bengaluru City Police have only filed an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) and have not registered a First Information Report (FIR) against any authorities for alleged negligence. While the probe into an FIR is a criminal investigation overseen by a court, an inquiry into a UDR is monitored by an assistant commissioner.
