Officials inspected K.V. Complex at Taliparamba on Friday (October 10, 2025), where a massive fire had broken out on Thursday (October 9, 2025) evening destroying more than 100 shops.

The police inspected the gutted shops in the presence of their owners and prepared a preliminary report, while forensic experts collected samples from the site. The findings will be consolidated and submitted to the government.

A total of 112 shops were destroyed in the fire.

The police have registered a case on a complaint by P.P. Muhammed Rishad, owner of K.V. Complex, where the fire reportedly originated from a transformer in front of the building.

Traders have estimated the loss at around ₹50 crore.

CPI(M) State secretary M.V. Govindan, who visited the site, said that the government would consider a special package for the affected traders and workers.

Mr. Govindan, who is also the Taliparamba MLA, said that ₹14 lakh had been allocated from the MLA fund to set up the first water hydrant system in Kannur district. The decision was taken at a review meeting held at the Taliparamba taluk office after the Fire and Rescue Services district officer highlighted the urgent need for such a system.

The new hydrant system aims to ensure immediate water supply to fire force units during emergencies in Taliparamba and surrounding areas.

In the first phase, six hydrant centres will be established. “This is the first time such a facility is being set up in the district. “The fire on Thursday was one of the most devastating incidents we have seen, and the structure of the building coupled with flammable materials made firefighting extremely challenging,” Mr. Govindan said.
