In a step towards cleaner streets and improved waste management, a new waste kiosk was inaugurated to facilitate localised garbage collection and disposal in southeastern Bengaluru’s Adugodi.
The initiative aims to eliminate black spots, reduce foul odours, and encourage residents to actively participate in keeping the city clean. Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited plans to set up 76 such kiosks across the city, supported by transfer stations and community-level composting initiatives.
Transport Minister and BTM Layout MLA Ramalinga Reddy inaugurated the semi-automatic dry waste collection centre and waste kiosk in Adugodi and emphasised that citizen cooperation is critical for effective waste management.
According to the plan, each kiosk will be equipped with four 100-litre bins, allowing citizens to dispose of segregated waste free of charge at designated times.
Highlighting ongoing successes, officials noted that BTM Layout’s second-phase transfer station is already operational, while Koramangala’s waste-to-compost and leaf-processing units are functioning effectively.
Several resident welfare associations have also begun processing organic waste locally and distributing compost to farmers.
Karee Gowda, Chief Executive Officer of BSWML, said the kiosks are being established to permanently remove black spots in the city. In addition, about 4 acres in BTM Layout 4th Stage have been earmarked for a new transfer station, and authorities are exploring the use of CSR funds to construct dry waste collection units in every constituency.
