BJP leaders embarked on a initiative to clean up the statues and memorials erected in public places across Tirupati on Tuesday.
The local initiative, headed by the State spokesperson Jalli Madhusudhan, was part of the nationwide call to conduct a cleanliness drive starting from September 17, the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to October 2 (Gandhi Jayanti).
“The drive was aimed at providing a refreshingly new look to the statues of mythological characters, historical personalities and national leaders, which have gathered dust due to traffic,” said Mr. Madhusudhan.
Apart from the traffic islands, the leaders also cleaned the ladders leading to and the enclosures around the statues of Maharshi Valmiki and poetess ‘Kavayitri’ Molla.
