The united stand taken by the Opposition on Friday to defeat the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026, marks a victory for Indian democracy, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Sunny Joseph has said.

The claims made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding women’s reservation were a sham, Mr. Joseph said on Sunday, adding that the real intention of the BJP government was a politically motivated delimitation of Lok Sabha seats. The BJP introduced the Bill to overcome its fear of a defeat in the 2029 elections. By using women’s reservation as a front, the BJP had sought to increase the Lok Sabha seats in States ruled by it to guarantee an election victory.
