Monalisa Bhosle, who gained fame on the Internet last year after videos of her selling beads during the Maha Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj went viral, got married to Farman Khan at a brief ceremony at Sri Nainaar Deva Temple, near Poovar, in rural Thiruvananthapuram.

Earlier in the day, the Indore Native woman had approached the Thampanoor police claiming that her father Vijay Singh Bhosle was objecting to her relationship and was forcing her to marry another person. According to the Thampanoor police, no case has been filed as the issue was settled with talks between both parties. The police told the father that as an adult she was free to choose a partner of her choice.

A touch of mystery surrounded the circumstances that led to their wedding. Ms. Bhosle has been staying in Kerala for the past few days to work in a film. According to a friend of the groom who spoke to The Hindu, the couple who were working together as lead actors in the film had fallen in love six months ago.

The wedding ceremony attained a political character too with Communist Party of India (Marxist) leaders, including State secretary M.V. Govindan, General Education Minister V.Sivankutty and A.A. Rahim, MP, attending it to express solidarity with the couple.

“The fact that they found Kerala to be a safe space to get married makes us proud. This is an example of a real Kerala story when movies are being made to malign the State. This is a political statement. We also saw it as our duty to support them,” said Mr. Rahim.
