Aqua farmers told to register brackish water ponds with CAA in West Godavari

West Godavari District Collector Ch. Nagarani has directed the aqua farmers to register brackish water ponds with the Coastal Aquaculture Authority (CAA) to regulate aquaculture activities in the Coastal Regulatory Zone of the district. The officials have been instructed to ensure completion of the registration process by the end of October.

In a recent review meeting with the aquafarmers and officials of fisheries and revenue, Ms. Nagarani claimed that the Central government has declared West Godavari district as a cluster for brackish water aquaculture. The total extent of area under brackish water aquaculture is above 17,100 acres across the coastal belt in the district, in which one of the branches of river Godavari confluences into Bay of Bengal.

“The brackish water ponds beginning from two kilometres from the High Tide Level and 200 meters from the backwaters are eligible to be registered with the CAA for the brackish water aquaculture,” she said.
