Forest and Environment Minister Eshwar Khandre has donated 1,800 cubic feet of the Karungali Wood, worth over ₹40 lakh, for the construction of a temple car to replace the existing 50-year-old temple car of the famous Sharanabasaveshwar Temple in Kalaburagi.

Sharanabasaveshwar Vidya Vardak Sangha secretary Basavaraj Deshmukh said that the temple recently approached Forest Department depots in Dandeli in Uttara Kannada and elsewhere for the special wood.

On learning about this, Mr. Khandre procured and donated the required Karungali logs on behalf of the Khandre family.

Mr. Deshmukh said that the existing wooden logs, selected five decades ago by the eighth Peetadhipathi of Sharanabasaveshwar Samsthan Dr. Sharanabaswappa Appa, have developed cracks and lost shape, making it difficult to assemble the temple car during the annual Rathotsava which is held normally after the fifth day of the Holi celebrations every year to commemorate the death anniversary of the 18th Century Saint Lord Sharanabasaveshwara.

Meanwhile, president of the Sharanabasaveshwar Vidya Vardak Sangha Dakshayini S. Appa has expressed happiness and appreciated the noble gesture of Mr. Khandre and his family.
