A 20-year-old B. pharma student was found murdered with multiple injuries near the railway tracks behind Mantri Mall in Bengaluru’s Malleswaram on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Yamini Priya, a resident of Srirampura. She was returning home after appearing for an exam at her college.
Initial probe revealed that the assailant followed Priya and allegedly attacked her with a lethal weapon, stabbing her neck and back multiple times before fleeing from the spot. She died due to excessive bleeding.
The murder came to light when passers-by noticed the victim lying dead on the roadside and alerted the police.
The Srirampura police arrived at the scene and conducted spot investigations, before shifting the body for post-mortem. Authorities are checking the CCTV footage from in and around the area to identify the assailant. Early investigations point to someone who could have killed Priya after she rejected his proposal, the police said.
Priya’s call-record details are also being checked at. “We have obtained some leads and are working on it,” a police officer said.
