A woman and her paramour were reportedly taken into custody on Thursday on the charge of murdering her husband at Chiluvuru village in Duggirala mandal of Guntur district in the intervening night of Janaury 18 and 19.

The deceased has been identified as Siva Nagaraju Lokam (46). His father Gandhi, a former MPTC member, lodged the police complaint.

According to police, Lakshmi Madhuri, 35, allegedly served her husband biryani laced with three strips of sleeping pills, allegedly brought by her paramour Kondaveeti Gopi, 30.

Gopi, a native of Garlapadu village in Sattenapalli mandal of Palnadu district, works in Hyderabad.

As Nagaraju did not die after consuming the food, Madhuri and Gopi allegedly smothered him with a pillow, leading to his death. Police said ribs of Nagaraju were broken and bleeding was noticed.

Married for 20 years, the couple have two children aged 10 and 4.

Police said Nagaraju, an onion vendor, had suspected his wife of having an illicit relationship. Madhuri had reportedly lodged a harassment complaint two months ago.

A case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered on September 19. Sub-Inspector S. Venkat Ravi said the investigation is on.
