Uncertainty prevails on the proposed recruitment of 1,531 teaching posts in 18 State Universities across Andhra Pradesh, despite the government announcing in its Ugadi job calendar that the notifications would be issued on May 15, 2026.

The recruitment process has become entangled in legal proceedings, with more than 20 writ petitions related to the 2023 university recruitment notifications pending before the Andhra Pradesh High Court, says K. Srinivasulu, general secretary of Assistant Professor APPSC Exam Qualified Candidates’ Association.

Informing that on May 11, 2026, the matter came up for hearing before a High Court Bench comprising Chief Justice Lisa Gill and Justice Raghunandan Rao, Mr. Srinivasulu said the court reportedly did not permit the withdrawal of the 2023 notifications due to the absence of clear clarification on the reservation roster system proposed to be followed in the fresh recruitment notifications.

“Questions were also raised regarding the implementation of rationalisation under G.O. 143, the applicability of post-based versus vacancy-based reservation, allocation of roster points in light of the R.K. Sabharwal Judgment and related judicial precedents, as well as whether the roster unit should be treated department-wise or university-wise,” he said.

Mr. Srinivasulu said the Bench is understood to have advised the government to submit a legally sustainable and workable roster framework during the next hearing.

“In view of these unresolved legal and procedural issues, doubts are being raised over the feasibility of conducting the proposed Job Festival and issuing the university recruitment notifications on May 15,” he said, adding that according to sources, the next hearing is likely to be held on June 18, 2026.

“Until then, uncertainty will remain over whether the long-awaited recruitment notifications for university teaching posts will be issued as scheduled,” he said.
