The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has lodged a complaint at the office of the Director-General of Police (DGP) in Mangalagiri against what it called a “politically motivated IVRS campaign,” allegedly orchestrated by the ruling coalition, to divert public attention from its involvement in the alleged illicit liquor racket that is unearthed in Andhra Pradesh.

The complaint was filed with the Cyber Crime Division on Friday by party leaders Jogi Ramesh, Velampalli Srinivas, Malladi Vishnu, MLC M. Arun Kumar, State Legal Cell president Manohar Reddy, and NTR District president D. Avinash.

They sought a thorough and independent investigation, and strict action against those responsible for both the “smear campaign and liquor racket.”

Later, addressing the media, Mr. Ramesh said people of Andhra Pradesh were furious over the spurious liquor operations that exposed the “corruption and criminal nexus within the coalition government.”

The TDP and its allies were attempting to divert attention by spreading lies through IVRS calls to malign the YSRCP leaders, he alleged. “If Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has the courage, let him order a CBI probe into the liquor racket,” he said, adding that he was ready for a lie-detector or narco analysis test to prove his innocence.

Mr. Ramesh also accused the “yellow media” of making baseless allegations linking him to the liquor racket, and described it as an attempt at character assassination. Only Mr. Naidu and HRD Minister N. Lokesh were capable of such a propaganda, the YSRCP leader alleged.
