IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu on Tuesday (December 9, 2025) outlined Telangana government’s vision to position the State as a Life Sciences powerhouse, especially as one that will lead the next wave of innovation in the domain.
Setting up of a Life Sciences University, as an extension of Young India Skills University, to ensure a steady stream of industry ready talent pool availability and unveiling of new generation Life Sciences Policy 2.0 will be some of the near term initiatives of the government, the Minister said.
Mr. Sridhar Babu, participating in a panel discussion on the famed Life Sciences cluster Genome Valley at the Telangana Rising Global Summit-2025 held at Bharat Future City, said the new Life Sciences Policy is planned to be launched at the upcoming World Economic Forum in Davos.
“We want Telangana to lead the next wave of Life Sciences innovation. As the world is reshaped by new technologies, digital transformation, [the focus] is on how best we can position ourselves for the future… support bio manufacturing [at scale],” the Minister said.
Noting how Genome Valley, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, has been instrumental in Hyderabad’s growth in the Life Sciences sector and home to 250 companies from 18 countries, Mr. Sridhar Babu said the government under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, as part of the expansion projects, recently launched incubation facility One Bio pharma platform.
Some of the other facilitative measures under consideration of the Government to promote growth of the Life Sciences sector is a new energy policy encouraging firms to generate and harness sustainable power of their choice; and holding regulatory flow auditor meeting. By 2047, the government wants to see Hyderabad as a powerhouse for global innovation and a preferred location for work on frontier technology.
Earlier, setting the tone for the discussion, IT and Industries Secretary Sanjay Kumar said the State Government envisages a major role for Genome Valley as Telangana aspires to become a $3 billion economy by 2047. The Government is also working on the TG-iPASS 2.0 single window approvals with a focus on faster regulatory clearances. The Life Sciences Policy 2.0 will provide incentives for research and development work (R&D) similar to those extended for manufacturing.
