The Department of Neurosurgery at NIMHANS, in association with the Departments of Neuroanesthesiology and Neurocritical Care, will host SIONCON 2025 –  the 3rd Annual Conference and Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme of the Society of Intraoperative Neurophysiology –  at the NIMHANS Convention Centre from November 14 to 16.

The three-day conference will bring together specialists from neurosurgery, neurophysiology, neuroanesthesiology, neurology, psychology, and allied disciplines from India and abroad. The scientific programme will feature keynote lectures, orations, symposia, debates, and hands-on workshops, with participation from eminent international faculty representing the United States, United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Singapore, Japan, and the United Arab Emirates.

A key theme of the SIONCON- 2025 will be the growing role of Intraoperative NeuroMonitoring (IONM) –  a technology that provides real-time feedback on the functional integrity of the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves during surgery. By helping surgeons identify and preserve pathways governing movement, speech, and sensation, the IONM has significantly enhanced the safety and precision of brain tumour and spinal surgeries, reducing the risk of postoperative deficits, according to an official release.

Sessions will focus on advances in brain connectivity, neurostimulation, functional mapping, neurocognitive assessment in glioma patients, and the integration of neuroimaging with surgical planning. The discussions will highlight strategies for preserving neurological function during tumour resections, awake brain surgeries, spinal deformity corrections, and other complex neuro-oncological procedures, the release said.
