More than two years after leakage began at the P&T Apartment complex in Mundamveli, a pilot project was finally launched to plug bathroom leaks, as recommended by IIT Madras, earlier this week.
Two coats of a leak-proof solution have been applied to the floor of one apartment bathroom as part of the pilot programme, which will run for ten days to test its effectiveness. If successful, the solution will be extended to other apartments.
Residents, however, remain unconvinced, pointing out that the pilot project addresses only bathroom leaks and not the larger problem of water seepage during rains caused by structural flaws. “What is the point in IIT Madras, appointed as consultant to find permanent solutions, recommending a pilot project restricted to plugging bathroom leakage alone?” asked Abhilash P. Parameswaran, president of P&T Apartment Owners Association.
