Amid the ongoing war in West Asia, the Union government on Friday (March 27, 2026) assured the Lok Sabha that there was no need to panic as steps have been taken to ensure that fertilizer is available to farmers whenever required.

Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister J. P. Nadda said India has adequate stocks of fertilizers. He was replying to a supplementary question on the measures the government is taking to ensure availability amid the ongoing West Asia war.

The ongoing conflict is disrupting key maritime routes and, specifically, the supply of natural gas and ammonia to India, threatening to reduce domestic fertilizer production by 10-15%.

Mr. Nadda said he has spoken to State Agriculture Ministers on Thursday (March 26, 2026) and informed them about availability of fertilizers.

“I want to assure the citizens of the country the government has taken steps to ensure that fertilizer is available to farmers whenever required. We have sufficient reserves in place. There is no need to panic,” the Minister said.

In response to a question from Congress MP Manish Tewari on whether the government was looking at newer markets for fertilizer imports, he said there were sufficient reserves for the Kharif season.

“We are also exploring diversification by tapping into new markets and regions to secure raw materials for fertilizers. We have developed a strategy to ensure their availability,” he said.
