Senior IPS officer V. C. Sajjanar has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad City, in a major Telangana-wide reshuffle of IPS officers. A Government Order transferring and giving new postings to the officers was dated September 26, 2025. He replaces C. V. Anand, who has been transferred and posted as Special Chief Secretary to the Government, Home Department.

A 1996-batch officer of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh cadre, later allotted to the Telangana cadre, Mr. Sajjanar has held key postings across policing and administration during his career spanning nearly three decades.

A native of Hubli, Karnataka, Mr. Sajjanar is the son of C.B. Sajjanar and Girija Sajjanar. He holds a commerce degree from J. G. College of Commerce, Hubli, and an MBA from Karnataka University, Dharwad.

He acquired the sobriquet ‘encounter specialist’, after he played a key role in several high-profile cases, including the 2019 gunning down of four accused in an alleged encounter following the Disha rape and murder case while he was Commissioner of Cyberabad, and prior to that the gunning down of three suspects involved in the 1996 acid attack in Warangal, when he was Warangal Superintendent of Police.

He began his service as Assistant Superintendent of Police in Jangaon, Warangal district, and Pulivendla in Cuddapah district. On promotion, he went on to serve as Superintendent of Police in Nalgonda, Kadapa, Guntur, Warangal, and Medak, and also headed the Crime Investigation Department’s Economic Offences Wing. He later commanded the Organisation for Countering Terrorist Operations (OCTOPUS) and the 6th Battalion, Andhra Pradesh Special Police, at Mangalagiri.

As Deputy Inspector General and later Inspector General, Mr. Sajjanar served in the Intelligence Department until March 2018, before taking charge as Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad, a post he held until August 2021. In September that year, he was appointed Managing Director of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation, a position he held until his latest transfer.
