Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday (December 6, 2025) formally launched the membership drive for Janata Dal (United), the party headed by him, for the period between 2025 and 2028.

The campaign began with Mr. Kumar, the party’s national president, renewing his membership. He then issued membership receipts to senior leaders of the party including national working president Sanjay Jha, State unit president Umesh Singh Kushwaha and national vice-president Bashishtha Narayan Singh.

The party has set a target of over 1 crore primary members, for which an intensive campaign will be run at the booth level.

Other leaders who renewed their membership includes Union Minister of State Ramnath Thakur, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Narendra Narayan Yadav, Ministers Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Shravan Kumar, Chief Whip of the ruling party in the Legislative Council Sanjay Kumar Singh alias Gandhi Ji and former MP-cum-State unit president of extremely backward cell Chandeshwar Prasad Chandravanshi.
