The Marrigunta junction, where the newly-formed six-lane National Highway 71 connects Renigunta towards Naidupeta, will be renamed as Atal Bihari Vajpayee Circle.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami formally unveiled a bronze statue at the junction, in the presence of Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav, Srikalahasti MLA Bojjala Venkata Sudheer Reddy, BJP State president P.V.N. Madhav, vice-president Kola Anand, district president Samanchi Srinivas, TTD board member G. Bhanuprakash Reddy and JSP district president Pasupuleti Hariprasad, among others.

The statue was unveiled as part of ‘Atal Modi Suparipalana Yatra’, the BJP’s ongoing flagship programme to highlight the achievements of the Narendra Modi government by drawing a leaf from the erstwhile Atal Vajpayee regime. The circle was named after Vajpayee as a form of paying tributes to the former Prime Minister.

Mr. Dhami expressed delight at getting an opportunity to come all the way from Uttarakhand to Tirupati to immortalise the former Prime Minister. He hailed the Vajpayee regime as the first non-Congress government in the country to serve its full term.

Meanwhile, Mr. Madhav hailed Vajpayee as a vital link, not only for linking cities through national highways, but also for linking 27 regional parties across the length and breadth of the country to provide a stable government. “In fact, he also provided the link between two generations of BJP leaders through his vision and roadmap for leadership succession,” he said.

BJP State general secretaries Nagothu Ramesh Naidu, Sannareddy Dayakar Reddy and official spokesperson Jalli Madhusudhan also took part. Earlier, the party cadre took out a colourful motorcycle rally from the airport to the venue.
