A 32-year-old man was arrested by Tiruvannamalai East police on Thursday for reportedly assaulting a female nurse inside an ATM vestibule in Tiruvannamalai town.

The police said the arrested person was identified as K. Avinash, a resident of Tiruvannamalai. Initial inquiry revealed that the victim Sahana went to an ATM vestibule near a children’s park in town on May 7. As she reportedly took time to withdraw cash , the suspect Avinash got agitated.

The police said Avinash went inside and reportedly got into an argument with Sahana to withdraw quickly as he had to withdraw money for an emergency. As she kept checking her cash balance in her account at the machine, Avinash allegedly removed her burka and attacked her.

The police said the incident was captured on CCTV cameras fixed inside the facility. Based on her complaint, the police analysed CCTV camera footage on the route and nabbed Avinash in the town. Later, he was lodged at Central Prison in Vellore. A probe is under way.
