Three persons were killed on the spot in a tragic road accident on National Highway-16 in the early hours of Friday (December 26, 2025) under the limits of Nallapadu police station, in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh.

According to police, the accident occurred at around 5.30 a.m. on the third lane of NH-16, opposite Kommineni Cold Storage. The car was travelling from Tirupati to Suryapet in Telangana.

Kandepu Vamsidhar, Circle Inspector of Police, Nallapadu, said the car driver felt drowsy and stopped the vehicle on the road margin after stepping down from the highway to wash his face. As soon as the car stopped, a Private Travels bus rammed into the stationary vehicle from behind.

The impact was severe, resulting in the instantaneous death of three occupants. The deceased were identified as Kunchala Venkataiah, 65, his wife Kunchala Suseela, 56, and Navila Mahesh, 28, all natives of Suryapet district.

Fortunately, other occupants of the car — Madhu, his wife, their two children and his uncle — escaped with injuries, though all of them were inside the vehicle at the time of the accident. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital.

Upon receiving information, staff of the cold storage rushed to the scene and informed Nallapadu CI Vamsidhar. Superintendent of Police, Guntur district, Vakul Jindal, inspected the accident scene. Police have registered a case.

It is worth mentioning that, in another accident in Nandyala district of Andhra Pradesh, another four were feared dead in the early hours of the same day, taking total accident death toll in the State to seven.
