Mandya Deputy Commissioner Kumar chaired a meeting to review the progress of construction of buildings for various State-run residential schools in the district.
A total of 43 residential schools, including Morarji Desai, Kittur Rani Chennamma, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and Indira Gandhi Residential schools, are functioning in Mandya district.
Reviewing the progress of construction of buildings, Mr. Kumar instructed the officials to inspect the works and take necessary steps for their speedy completion within the stipulated time.
The Deputy Commissioner also discussed the deficiencies in basic facilities in these institutions and directed the officials to place greater emphasis on improving quality education while also strengthening the basic infrastructure in schools.
He said all residential schools must ensure provision of essential facilities like drinking water, food, and toilets to students. He instructed the officials concerned to work proactively to ensure that the intended facilities reach students.
He directed them to take the necessary steps to improve the performance of SSLC students studying at the residential schools through special classes and periodic tests.
Mr. Kumar asked them to prepare a list of problems faced by the residential schools in the district and submit a proposal to the government seeking a solution.
The meeting was attended by Srinivas, deputy director of the Social Welfare Department, Manjula, deputy director of the Backward Classes Welfare Department, Arun Kumar, lead bank manager, and others.
