Staff shortage in the Health department, the financial burden due to high medical treatment costs, the problems faced by Accredited Social Health Activists and nurses were highlighted at an interactive event organised by a panel of health experts deputed by the United Democratic Front (UDF) here on Saturday (September 20, 2025).

S.S. Lal, public health expert and chairman of the panel, said that similar events had been held earlier in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi. The panel will compile the proposals it receives into a report to be submitted to the Health department by next year. People from different walks of life, including health workers, have shared their views. Some participants also emphasised the need to address issues in the mental healthcare sector.

P.N. Ajitha and O.T. Basheer, other members of the panel, were present.
