The police arrested a man and seized 49.14 g of MDMA that was being transported in a car during a vehicle check at Vidyanagar in Kasaragod on Monday evening.

The arrested person has been identified as B. Mohammed Rafiq, 39, a native of Kallakatta and currently residing at Bella.

The seizure, led by Kasaragod Town sub-inspector C.R. Moushmi, was made around 6.15p.m. in front of the Kasaragod Government College, Vidyanagar, when the police were conducting routine inspections on the service road. A car coming from the Kasaragod town slowed down when signalled to stop but suddenly sped away, raising suspicion. The police chased the vehicle and intercepted it by blocking its path.

A detailed search of the car led to the recovery of MDMDA concealed under the driver’s seat, the police said.

Officials added that a 23-year-old woman from Mangaluru and two children were travelling in the car. The woman reportedly told police that she was a relative of the accused. The police is further investigating the case.
