A woman and her daughter were found dead at the staff quarters of McGann Hospital in Shivamogga on Friday. Police suspect that the woman, who was undergoing treatment for depression, died by suicide after killing her 12-year-old daughter.

The deceased woman has been identified as Shruthi, 38. Shruthi’s husband Ramanna, a native of Mayakonda in Davangere district, works as a technician at the blood bank of McGann Hospital. After returning from work on Friday morning, Ramanna saw that the front door of his house was locked from the inside. He broke open the door and found the dead bodies of both his wife and daughter.

Shivamogga Superintendent of Police G.K. Mithun Kumar visited the spot. The Doddapete Police have registered a case, Mr. Kumar said. “Two people have been found dead. The incident involves two cases — a murder and a suicide. Police will investigate the case to get more details,” he stated.

Caution: Those in distress and having suicidal thoughts can call up the State’s helpline 104 or the toll-free number 14416.
