The Maharashtra government, in the Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday (May 5, 2026), approved upgrading 19 secondary schools to junior college level and 5 primary ashram schools to secondary level under the Tribal Development Department.
The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, decided to upgrade the classes with the aim of preventing dropouts and continuing the educational progress of tribal students in the hilly and remote areas of the State. The decision will create posts and provide expenditure for the upgradation of these ashram schools.
