The Central Government on Saturday (September 13, 2025) announced the appointment of Madras High Court judge Justice M. Sundar as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur.
Union Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal made the announcement.
“In exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India, the President of India, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to appoint Shri Justice M. Sundar, Judge, Madras High Court as Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur with effect from the date he assumes charge of the office,” Mr. Meghwal said in a post on X.
The appointment follows retirement of Justice Kempaiah Somashekar, present Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur on September 14, 2025.
On September 11, the Supreme Court collegium had recommended Justice Sundar for the post.
