Swiss contract development and manufacturing organisation Lonza Group AG has decided to establish a global capability centre (GCC) in Hyderabad.

A delegation from the company met IT and Industries Minister D.Sridhar Babu and conveyed the decision as well as shared details of the plan.

Hyderabad on the back of its strong scientific ecosystem, digital depth and world-class manufacturing capabilities continues to stand out as the bright spot for global Life Sciences investments, the Minister said on Thursday, in a release, while hailing Lonza’s decision.

Lonza’s investment is bound to further strengthen Telangana’s position as a preferred destination for innovation-led growth in the global biopharmaceutical industry. The GCC has the potential to create a substantial number of new jobs over the years, he said.

The company after an extensive evaluation process chose Hyderabad based on the strong talent pool, quality infrastructure and supportive industrial ecosystem the city offered.

“We are delighted Lonza has chosen Hyderabad… decision marks another significant milestone in the continued expansion of Telangana’s Life Sciences ecosystem,” Telangana Lifesciences CEO Shakthi M. Nagappan said.

Headquartered in Switzerland and founded in 1897, Lonza operates across more than 30 sites worldwide and employs close to 20,000 professionals. In 2025, it reported sales of CHF 6.5 billion.
