Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president and Sircilla MLA, K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), on Monday (December 29, 2025) alleged that the Congress government in Telangana was deliberately delaying the Palamuru–Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Project (PRLIP) for political reasons and accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of lacking a basic understanding of irrigation projects and water allocation.

Interacting with media persons at the Assembly media point in Hyderabad, Mr. Rama Rao alleged that the Government was blocking the progress out of fear that completion of the project would strengthen former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s legacy and to avoid displeasing Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu over Krishna River water sharing.

Recalling that an allocation of 299TMC of water had been agreed upon earlier during the tenure of the Congress government, he alleged that the present dispensation was blocking it.

The BRS leader also accused the Chief Minister of using inappropriate language. While stating that he would not respond to personal remarks against him, Mr. Rama Rao said he would strongly object to any comments directed at Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao. He criticised the demand that KCR attend Assembly discussions, claiming that those seeking a debate lacked a clear understanding of irrigation issues.

Referring to allegations that Medigadda barrage, part of the Kaleshwaram project, was intentionally damaged before the 2023 Assembly Elections, he said engineers had lodged complaints alleging sabotage and questioned why no serious investigation had been conducted so far.

On the proposed reorganisation of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Mr. Rama Rao said any move to divide the civic body into multiple corporations should be based on scientific reasoning and preceded by public discussion.

Regarding the phone tapping issue, he accused the Government of using Special Investigation Teams and inquiries as diversionary tactics and questioned the outcomes of such probes.
