Kalaburagi Lok Sabha member Radhakrishna Doddamani has announced that around 2,500 food kits will be distributed to people affected by heavy rain and floods in the district in north Karnataka. The kits will be handed over to the beneficiaries through the district administration on September 26.

Mr. Doddamani said the incessant rainfall over the past week had led to overflowing of the Bhima and Bennethora rivers, forcing hundreds of villagers in low-lying areas to move to safer places. Government schools, community halls and temples have been converted into care centres to provide shelter, while women, children and the elderly are being supplied with essential items.

Teams of officials have been deployed to manage relief camps and oversee safety measures in flood-hit villages. The MP said that both the government of Karnataka and the district administration were committed to providing immediate assistance. Directions have already been issued to conduct surveys of crop and house damage caused by the rains.

Mr. Doddamani assured that urgent steps would be taken to secure Central and State funds for the restoration of roads, including national highways, and other basic infrastructure damaged in the floods.
