Actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) president Kamal Haasan called for the abolition of NEET, arguing that the examination system creates a mismatch between school education and college entrance tests.

In a post on X, Mr. Haasan cited the Union government’s Vineet Joshi Committee, which he said had acknowledged the disconnect between what students are taught in school and what they are tested on for college admissions.

He urged the Centre to clear Tamil Nadu’s NEET Exemption Bill, which is awaiting Presidential assent, and said the focus should be on ending what he described as an unfair system rather than reforming it. For other entrance examinations, Haasan backed the committee’s recommendations, including giving greater weightage to Class 12 marks, allowing multiple attempts during the year and limiting coaching to two to three hours a day.
