A 34-year-old man was arrested by Government Railway Police (GRP) for pelting stones at Howrah express train near Arani town in Tiruvannamalai on Saturday.

The police said the arrested person was identified as T. Joseph Mani, a native of Dharmapuri. Initial inquiry revealed that Mani was travelling in the train when he got into an argument with other commuters in the train at Onnupuram village near Arani town in the district.

The police said that Mani reportedly pulled the emergency chain to stop the train. As he got down from the train, Mani threw stones at the glass windows of the train and damaged them. The police said immediately other commuters alerted railway police, who rushed to the spot. A case was registered. Mani was arrested and lodged at sub-jail in Tiruvannamalai town. A probe is under way.
