Teams engaged in searching for four persons reported missing in the Bhadra canal at Kudligere, near Holehonnur in Bhadravati taluk of Shivamogga district in Karnataka, retrieved one more body on January 21.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team succeeded in finding the body of Neelabai, 50, in the canal. The body of her son Ravi Kumar, 22, was found on January 19. Neelabai’s daughter Shwetha and son-in-law Parashuram are missing.

The four were reported missing on January 18 near the canal. They had left home at Arebilachi on two bikes to wash clothes. It is suspected that one of them drowned in the canal initially which prompted the others to jump into water to rescue their kin, resulting in all four drowning.

The local police, SDRF team and Fire and Emergency Services staff have been making efforts to find the missing persons since January 18 evening. Expert swimmers were called in. So far, two bodies have been found. The search for two more is on.
