Humane Animal Society (HAS), in collaboration with HCL Foundation and Mission Rabies India, have launched the re-vaccination drive in eight regions of the Coimbatore district namely, Madukkarai, Arasipalayam, Nachipalayam, Vazhukkupparai, Malumachampatti, Othakkalmandapam, Seerapalayam and Karumathampatti from December 8 to 18.

The success of last year’s campaign during the same time in the same areas, where more than 5,000 dogs were vaccinated in seven days has been the main inspiration to re-vaccinate in the same areas this year, as annual re-vaccination is the key to eliminate the deadly disease. Since launching the campaign on December 10, more than 3,000 dogs have already been vaccinated. The campaign is expecting to cross 6,000 dogs by December 18.
The programme includes the deployment of a dedicated Rabies Response Team (RRT) trained to respond swiftly to community calls. This complements the ongoing dog-vaccination campaigns and public education drives being carried out across the district during this time.
Representatives from the district administration, HCL Foundation, Mission Rabies, and Humane Animal Society along with several local partners and volunteers were present at the launch, collectively reaffirming their commitment to strengthening Coimbatore’s fight against rabies through robust surveillance, vaccination, and community awareness. The initiative has been recognised as a true “One Health” effort, uniting human and animal health systems with the shared goal of making Coimbatore a rabies-free district.
