The Andhra Pradesh government will accord a priority to the development of the Guntur Mirchi Yard (Agriculture Market Committee), one of the most significant market committees in Andhra Pradesh, Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu said on Friday.

Addressing the oath-taking ceremony of the newly nominated market committee in Guntur, the Minister said the government was committed to the comprehensive development of the yard. He noted that chilli farmers had faced severe hardships under the previous regime and assured measures to curb investment distress and prevent losses.

Mr. Atchannaidu said that to compete in international markets, farmers must reduce the use of pesticides and focus on producing quality yields.

Referring to the yard’s current location in the heart of the city, he said the government would take a favourable decision if a detailed relocation report is submitted.

Kurra Appa Rao took charge as the chairman of the Guntur Mirchi Yard in the presence of elected representatives and coalition leaders. Former Minister Prathipati Pulla Rao administered the oath to the chairman, vice-chairman and directors.

MLAs Burla Ramanjaneyaulu, Bhashyam Praveen, Nakka Anand Babu, Prathipati Pulla Rao, Mayor Kovelamudi Ravindra and Pilli Manikyala Rao attended the event. The new committee pledged transparent transactions, improved infrastructure and fair prices for farmers, traders and workers.
