The work on railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme in Kerala is nearing completion, with all notified stations expected to be ready by February 2026, according to Divyakant Chandrakar, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Thiruvananthapuram Division. Recently, the refurbished Chirayinkeezhu and Kulitturai (in Kanyakumari) railway stations were inaugurated by the Prime Minister, along with 103 stations across the country, through videoconferencing.

Along similar lines, 11 additional stations selected for renovation under the scheme — focussed on enhancing passenger amenities, multi-modal integration, sustainability, and station aesthetics — will also be inaugurated in February. The works are progressing in Alappuzha, Angamaly, Chalakudy, Changanassery, Ettumanur, Guruvayur, Kayamkulam, Mavelikara, Neyyattinkara, Thiruvalla, Thripunithura, Wadakkanchery, and Nagercoil Jucntion stations. However, the ongoing redevelopment works at major stations such as Thiruvananthapuram Central and Ernakulam South will be completed at a later date.

Speaking after inspecting the ceremonial parade on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day, Mr. Chandrakar said that certain works, including the installation of lifts, have already been commissioned at Thripunithura and Changanassery. The lift installation at Aluva is expected to be completed by March 2026.

The division recorded a revenue of ₹1,845.41 crore during the period from April to December 2025, registering a year-on-year growth of 7.34%. Passenger revenue increased by 12.72% during the same period, reaching ₹1,422.59 crore compared to the previous year. As part of its digital transformation efforts, 58.13% of unreserved tickets are now being booked digitally, reflecting improved convenience and transparency for passengers.

OSOP initiative

Under the ‘One Station One Product’ (OSOP) initiative, the division entered its 50th phase last month, with the sale of 11,853 products generating ₹14.03 lakh, thereby supporting local artisans.

In terms of operational efficiency, train punctuality under the division has consistently remained above 90%, even as it operated 1,654 special trains, Mr. Chandrakar said. The division also achieved zero consequential train accidents last year by strengthening safety measures, including regular safety drives, mock drills, Samvad programmes, seminars, and intensive inspections. Additional initiatives such as ballast renewal, replacement of point machines at water-prone locations, installation of real-time gate sensors at level crossings, and expansion of CCTV and video surveillance have further enhanced passenger safety, he added.
