Super GST-Super Savings will provide super benefits to both consumers and traders, and every household and business will greatly benefit from it, says NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha.

Addressing the media in Vijayawada on Sunday, Mr. Lakshmisha said, as part of creating awareness about the benefits of the GST 2.0, the Great Amaravati Shopping Festival would be held from October 13 to 19 at Punnami Ghat-Berm Park in the city.

The district administration, the State Commercial Taxes Department, and the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) would jointly organise the shopping festival, said the Collector.

The festival, being organised as part of the awareness campaign, would serve as a platform for businesses, budding entrepreneurs, artisans and various groups to set up stalls and promote their brands. He added that business and commercial establishments would not only pass on GST benefits, but also announce special offers and discounts during the Deepavali season. “There will be a mega lucky draw and awards for the best stalls,” he added.

The festival would feature about 100 stalls and also include panel discussions and sessions on the outcomes of GST reforms. The Collector urged everyone to participate and make the festival a success, encouraging local businesses and citizens to make good use of the opportunity.

Mr. Lakshmisha said the reforms would save the district ₹250 crore to ₹300 crore, and this would translate to monthly savings of ₹6,000 to ₹12,000 per household.

He pointed out that earlier, 28% GST was levied on electronics and home appliances, but under GST 2.0, it was reduced to 18%. Items like solar water heaters, sewing machines and walkie-talkies previously had 12% GST, now reduced to 5%. Essential items like soaps, toothpaste, cooking oils and detergents earlier had 18% GST, now reduced to 5%. Appliances like mixers, cookers, grinders, and fans that previously attracted 18% GST now have only 5%., he said.

Joint Collector S. Ilakkiya, VMC Commissioner Dhyanachandra H.M. and officials from the Commercial Taxes Department were present.
