The Karnataka State Photographers’ Association staged a protest in Hassan on Tuesday, condemning the assault on professional photographers during a pre-wedding photo shoot at Bettada Bhyraveshwara Temple at Maragunda in Sakleshpur taluk.

The participants, who took out a protest march in Hassan city, demanded strict action against the people who assaulted the photographers and suitable compensation for the victims.

The protesters gathered on the premises of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat building and marched towards the DC’s office. Along the march, they raised slogans demanding action against the accused who assaulted the photographers.

H.S. Nagesh, state president of the association, addressing the gathering, said that the professional photographers were assaulted by local people for no reason. They damaged the equipment worth over ₹5 lakh. The victims should get suitable compensation for the loss they suffered.

The professional photographers were under distress, and the incident created a sense of fear among them across the state. They needed safety and security to continue with their profession, he noted.

Mr. Nagesh demanded that the district take measures necessary to ensure such incidents do not recur. The administration should issue clear instructions to authorities concerned at shooting locations.

S.Ningaraju, district president of the association; state secretary T.C. Nagaraju and others led the protest.
