Indian Medical Association (IMA) national president Dilip Bhanushali urged the government to exempt doctors from the purview of The Consumer Protection Act-2019. He said that the clauses of the Act are causing untold miseries for the medical fraternity. He was speaking at national conference organised by IMA’s College of General Practitioners in Vizianagaram on Saturday (December 06, 2025).

Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, he said that many rules and regulations of the Consumer Protection Act and Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act-2010 dragged hundreds of doctors into legal tangles.

College Dean V.S. Prasad said that the doctors should develop knowledge in medical subjects and understand the Laws of the land to run the hospitals in a systematic way. He said that artificial intelligence would not have any adverse impact in the field of medicines. The Organising Committee Chairman M. Venkateswara Rao, IMA former president J.C. Naidu and others were also present.
