Bharat Bandh LIVE: Central trade unions observe nationwide strike against Centre’s ‘anti-worker’ policies

The Joint Committee of Trade Unions and the State-led United Struggle, Karnataka, have called for a nationwide strike on February 12 to demand the repeal of the four labour codes and withdrawal of several proposed and existing policies affecting workers and farmers.

Addressing press persons in Hubballi on February 9, Mahesh Pattar, state secretary, Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), said the strike is being organised jointly by workers and farmers’ organisations. He alleged that the four labour codes will weaken labour protections, restrict the right to strike, dilute social security measures, and favour corporate interests. He also opposed the proposed VB-G RAM G scheme, claiming it will undermine rural employment.
